History

The Grand Prix began in 1967 while racing passionates, members of the Club Autosport Mauricien (CAM), decided to organize a race in the streets of Trois-Rivières.

Inspired by the races in Monaco's streets, Mr. Jean E. Ryan, Yves Dufour, Paul Charest, Leon Girard and Leon Cadieux, helped by a committee of thirty people , organized what will be for numerous years a unique event in North America. The Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières rapidly gained importance and hosted several major series with amazing high calibre pilots. For many years, the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières has greatly contributed to talents development, by contributing financially and providing racing opportunities for young drivers.    

 Over the years, the circuit has been modified several times, altering the length, the path and even the racing direction. At certain times, the circuit would take place on the Rue des Forges and even the grounds of the racecourse where they cut the oval to lengthen the circuit. The Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières welcomed over the years several major drivers such as Jacques Duval, Gilles and Jacques Villeneuve, Patrick Carpentier, Alexandre Tagliani, Andrew Ranger, Danica Patrick, Ron Fellows, David Emprigham and Paul Gentilozzi.

 An impressive number of series have raced on the track of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières since its beginnings and the many spectators have enjoyed each one of them. Series such as Formula Atlantic, American LeMans Serie, Trans Am, NASCAR Pinty’s, CCTC, Formula 1600 and 2000 and many others offered racing fans a show full of action in a narrow street circuit and demanding a adapted driving technique.

 Since 2014, the event welcomes the FIA World Rallycross Championship on an half-asphalt and half-dirt track circuit. GP3R is now presented on two different weekends; the AMA Supermoto Cogeco, SuperQuads Elka and Formula Drift Canada added to World RX and national rallycross categories to make a unique thrilling first weekend. On the following weekend features a great variety of series on the mythic street course. The always exciting NASCAR Pinty’s series, as well as CTCC, Formula Tour 1600, IMSA Mazda Prototype lites and Nissan Micra Cup  are in action during our road course weekend.

Recently, the Grand Prix is heavily involved with the community of Trois-Rivières, offering both a excellent show, activities for the whole family, helping social causes by donating tickets and allowing troubled youth to attend the races free of charge.
