THE BATTLE OF TECHNOLOGIES OF THE FIA WORLD RALLYCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP COMES TO THE HEART OF THE ENERGY TRANSITION VALLEY ON JANUARY 24 AND 25

TROIS-RIVIÈRES | MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2024 - The Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières (GP3R) is proud to announce the return of the FIA World Rallycross Championship to Trois-Rivières for the first time since 2019. This return comes with two major innovations: it will take place on an ice circuit set up by GP3R in collaboration with Hippodrome 3R and will feature the “Battle of Technologies” of WorldRX, the only major championship in the world where electric cars compete against others powered by renewable synthetic fuel, non-petroleum.

“This Polar Rallycross of Trois-Rivières - a round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship - arrives at the confluence of all our expertise,” explains Dominic Fugère, General Director of GP3R. “We know electric vehicles from having organized Formula E in Montreal and an electric ice event here on our circuit in 2023; we know renewable non-petroleum synthetic fuels that we have featured in the Chevrolet Urban Challenge for three years; and we know rallycross from having hosted six rounds of the world championship between 2014 and 2019.”

For the FIA World Rallycross Championship, it was essential to return to America. The best way to do this was to rely on the partners who have welcomed it since its inception in 2014 and every year the series crossed the Atlantic.

“We are incredibly excited to return to Canada for the first time since 2019 for an event that will be unlike any we have ever had on the calendar before,” explains Arne Dirks, Managing Director of Rallycross Promoter GmbH. “We know the Trois-Rivières circuit well, but racing on its icy and snowy version will add a whole new spectacular element to our calendar. We couldn’t have imagined a better way to kick off the 2025 season.”

The drivers of WorldRX have always loved coming to Trois-Rivières. The switch to ice in the middle of the Quebec winter does nothing to cool their eager desire to race here.

“Trois-Rivières has always been one of my favorite stops on the championship,” expressed Swedish driver Johan Kristoffersson, six-time world rallycross champion and two-time winner during the summer events in Trois-Rivières in 2017 and 2018. “There was no better place to make our return to America and have our first ice race in a country as northern as my Sweden.”

As in the first edition of the Polar Rallycross of Trois-Rivières in 2023, the main international series will run with vehicles deploying over 500kw (680HP) with tires adorned with more than 300 23mm studs that will transmit this energy to the ice of the 1.383 km circuit fully contained within the grounds of Hippodrome 3R.

Additionally, like in 2023, the heated and glass-enclosed stands of the racetrack will host spectators in individual seats and at hospitality tables. Tickets for these areas, as well as for general admission outside, are on sale starting this morning at billets.gp3r.com from $39 (before taxes and service fees).

The FIA World Championship will be accompanied by support series featuring local and national drivers, some of whom have impressive skills on ice. Their identities and the off-track programming will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
